Cantonese Opera Development Fund
Objectives
The Cantonese Opera Development Fund (CODF) is a charitable fund set up by the Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporated (Chapter 1044) in 2005. Home Affairs Bureau is responsible for overseeing the operation of the CODF.
The CODF are established for the following purposes:
- to support and fund research and studies on the development of Cantonese opera;
- to support and fund programmes and events aimed to promote and sustain the development of Cantonese opera;
- to support and fund such other charitable works and projects as are ancillary to, and conductive to, the purposes specified at (a) and (b) above; and
- to raise funds for projects as are conducive to the purposes specified at (a) and (b) above.
Funds raised by the CODF will mainly be used for supporting projects or activities as follows:
- Cantonese opera performances nurturing young talents, experimental / creative in nature or of high archival values;
- researches and studies, seminars, talks or workshops in relation to the development and inheritance of Cantonese opera;
- collecting, preserving, arranging or publishing literature on Cantonese opera in Hong Kong, Cantonese opera scripts or other related materials worthy of preservation, including oral history of Cantonese opera and audio-visual materials, etc.;
- promoting and sustaining the development of Cantonese opera in the community or the disadvantaged;
- developing educational resources on Cantonese opera and Cantonese opera education programmes for schools;
- building young audience and participants for Cantonese opera;
- professional training programmes for Cantonese opera practitioners;
- setting up Cantonese opera exchange platforms or exchange visits or outbound exchange programmes fostering the development of Cantonese opera, especially cultural exchange programmes with the Mainland; and
- other new projects in sustaining the development of Cantonese opera.
